How do you insert a static image on the windows 7 welcome Screen

Hi I would like to know how to add a static image in the photo frame of windows 7. I have trawlled through google, spiceworks and edugeek to find the answer. Unfortunately I have not found anything yet. Also I have spoken to my manager and have informed him that you cant do add a picture on the welcome screen. He disagress. Can anyone help me. Also I have been to university and have seen the windows 7 and they have managed to get the image in the photo frame.

 

I have also added the picture ontop of the background image but he has said that he does not like it due to the unprofessional look of th enew OS. Can someone help me to get the job done. I havel also looked onto 3rd party tweaks and hacking codes and he has said that he does not want to install it due the fact it will corrupt the new system.

I see you asked this a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, the only way to do it is with the hacks that you have already seen.

 

If your manager believes it is possible to do any other way then please invite him to demonstrate, as I'd love to see it.

Well... If it's done right there is no way to tell if it's on the background or not. It should line up with the "image box", and nothing else changes.

 

So either he's not happy with Win7, or somethings iffy on the image imho

 

Other than that it's bodges/hacks, as said above

could you just alter the background pic and by trial and error get a box with your required pic in the right place?

You do have to be pretty cunning when it comes to this - I've just made the image and then put in into C:\Windows\System32\oobe\info\backgrounds (you need to create folders if they don't exist.

 

Then call the image Backgrounddefault.jpg and it fits. This is ours

Without hacking system files you can't do this I'm afraid. Only for logged on users, i.e it would change the image in the start menu and when the user locks the workstation.

 

I'd be wary about hacking system files as whenever Microsoft update it, you'd have to redo it again and again...

Just a quick note that the size of the background image has to be under a certain size, 256kb if memory serves.

 

The only other option I can think of is there is a GPO somewhere that says something along lines of using the default profile picture for the frame, but I couldn't get it to work, but I didn't try too hard.

Finally Microsoft has incorporated a new feature in the latest build (7057) of Windows 7 which supports the end user to change the logon screen background without using any hacks or third-party tools.

 

 

In previous version of Windows, user had to use third-parry tools like Tune-Up-Utilities to change the logon screen background easily. Windows 7 now supports customization of Windows 7 logon screen officially. Replacing the old logon screen is just another task like changing wallpaper (Desktop background). Thanks to withinwindows for finding out this excellent feature.

 

 

 

Follow the procedure below to change the Windows 7 logon screen.

 

1. Download the registry file from here. Extract the file and double-click on the file to enable this feature (Alternative method: right-click, select Merge).

 

 

2. Now, head over to the following folder:

 

C:\Windows\System32\oobe (“C” is your Windows Seven Installation drive)

 

 

3. Here, create a new folder named Info. Again, create a new folder inside the Info folder and rename it as backgrounds.

 

 

4. Copy your favorite image file to this folder and rename it as backgroundDefault. Note that the image must be in JPG format and the size should be less than 256 KB.

 

 

5. You are done. Reboot your system and see the change.

 

The following files (sorted by width-to-height ratio) are supported in C:\Windows\System32\oobe\Info\Backgrounds folder:
