Hi all,

I need to collate some data regarding network storage; file type, size, age, user totals etc... and was wondering what others use to do this. The amount of data we currently backup is spiraling out of control so I would like to impose limits on student user areas.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I need to present the data to out SLT next week.

Cheers

Hiya

I am writing a bit of software for exactly this reason. It monitors the home drive every time a user logs in. This is done with a client msi deployed via group policy

It then has a web management server that displays reports to the admins on how folder sizes have changed over time.

If nothing else is around for you I would be happy for you to test this basic version as your need is great at this time :)

Cheers

we use a linux fileserver, with a combination of commands ( find, quota, grep, awk, sort ) you can get pretty much any statistics you like. perhaps you could look to powershell fot the same on win.
