Docman Backup using Filezilla

I am trying to Backup my docman files using Filezilla and most of the files in the dmdocuments folder state 'could not start transfer'. I am guessing it is down to permissions. I am not sure what to change or the terms owner, global and public.

 

Joomla version 1.5.9

Filezilla version 3.4.0

Docman version 1.4.0 stable.

 

Any assistance is appreciated.

if you change those files to owner you'll be able to modify those files and ergo you should be able to transfer them but it may be the actual directory and files which needs changing to owner - should start transferring aslong as you are logged in with the Admin/Owner account, you should be able to browse the directory and be able to change it's properties by right clicking - and aslong as you are logged onto the server with the correct credentials you should be able to change the file permissions - it is also possible you may need shell access to change the permissions. The current permissions are:

 

dmdocuments folder 777

downloadable file 644

Non downloadable file 700

 

I am correct in thinking if I change all the documents in the dmdocument folder to 644, and leave the folder as 777 then the backups should work?

 

Or should I change the dmdocuments folder to 644?

no change it all to 777 !! you can always change it back once your finished to keep it all secure Edited May 19, 2011 by cpjitservices

Can you add a backup user and then assign them relevant permissions, messing around with the permissions that docman needs to operate is not the best way to do this.

Not that I can see

 

There are only two places to specify ftp accounts, One in Plesk and One in Joomla. They only allow for the one user and they are both currently using the same credentials.

 

Is there a way to view all the current permissions on the files in the dmdocuments folder?

I have just tried to edit the permissions on the dmdocuments files, which could not downloaded and is says 'operation not permitted'. I have also noted the that 'docman.config.php' file is currently unwritable.

 

Is it a case of changing the docman.config.php to writable and then changing the file permissions for the individual files in the dmdocuments folder?

Do all the docuemnts have to be published in order for you to downlaod them via FTP?

 

Apologies for all the questions, I am just very warey of chmoding on a live site.
