is it possible?

Now that I have an EEEpad i want to be able to watch the videos stored on my popcornhour box downstairs. it has a samba share which i can use SMB browsing programs to get to on the eeepad, but then have to download the file to watch it, rather than stream it.

ideally i want a program on the eeepad that can browse that smb share, and when i click on a video file it opens the video to play and streams it.

i can do it via dlna but ive not found anything smb yet

astro file manager with the smb extension lets you do this I believe.

tried that, the smb addon force closes all the time unfortunately

upnplay works with rockplayer lite on my eeepad connected to a dlna box. I cant think of the file manager off the top of my head that accesses SMB, but I swear one works! Edited by Theblacksheep

I run a DLNA server called Serviio on my PC. I THINK it can cope with serving files on remote paths

FAQ excerpt

To access a NAS device the exact same set of credentials must be created on the NAS device. The Windows credentials must be a local user and not a domain user. The user must have "Run As Service" rights. The remote path must be entered as a UNC path in the Serviio Console (e.g. \\server\folder)), mapped drive letters will not work since user running the Serviio service is not aware of your mapped drives.

worth trying anyway and then use upnplay with rockplayer lite to view them.

i think (as i haven't messed with the popcornhour box for ages) it has a dlna server built in. i know it has smb and ftp, but im sure there were others i turned off as i wasn't using them. so i might turn them back on and see what happens :)

what about upnplay? this streams from DLNA on mine, as long as rockplayer is installed.
