ADSL Bonding

We're looking to upgrade our ADSL provision in the school and was wondering if anyone has got two (or more) ADSL lines bonded.

If so, what ISP are you using and what hardware to implement the bonding?

Nildram offer this and provide or recommend a Cisco router for the bonding... My info is out of date now but if you give them a call they can provide a lot more current info.

I am semi-reliably informed that BT arent providing MLPPP based bonding any longer - but some LLU ISPs might.

 

You should consider wether you need "true" boding - its possible to use 2 different ISP's connections and multiplex on a per-user basis with no extra "clever bits".

Hmm, if i use two different ISP connections, though, I'll not have the "faster" downloads/uploads that bonded would provide.

However, if I use two different ISPs, it would provide fall back support.

Something to consider, I suppose

Richie, question is, do you need a faster download for a single user, or is it more important that all users get a moderate but fairly reliable service?

I think it is better that all users get a generally good download speed, as opposed to individual users getting a fast speed

Having done further research it looks like I can just get 2 ADSL lines and connect them to a Cisco 1841 router to provide greater bandwidth (and backup in case one line fails).

What I now need to find out is what interface cards need to be plugged into the cisco and where to buy them from.
