Hi,

I have two identical laptops both set up with iTunes, one laptop works the other doesn't.

On the one that works when I click on iTunes and connect to the iTunes store I am asked for username and password for the proxy server.

On the laptop that doesn't work, iTunes try to connect but never asks for proxy details.

 

From the info I have found on the web it says, iTunes gets it's settings from internet explorer.

But I can't find which setting I need to change.

 

Any ideas?

Here are some instructions to set proxy settings:

1. Open internet explorer
   
2. Tools menu
   
3. Internet options
   
4. Connections tab
   
5. LAN settings buttom near the bottom of the page
   
6. tick "Use a proxy server for you LAN(These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections)
   
7. In the address box enter the proxy servers hostname or ip address
   
8. in the port box enter the port that you proxy monitors on(usually 8080)
   

 

If the laptop is connected to a domain the proxy settings can be set up via group policy: User configuration ->preferences ->control panel settings -> internet settings.

thanks for the reply.

we have the proxy settings configured via Group Policy and these are correct.

the issue is one laptop asks for credentials for the proxy and works, the other just tries without asking for credentials and fails.

what versions of iTunes on both ?

Try this:

Start

Run

keymgr.dll

Remove the stored entry for your proxy serever.

Not 100% what you mean, but had a look at keymgr.dll and there was no reference to the proxy server.

Think I'm just going to stick with the one machine that's working.

The laptop that you can't get to itunes store on, does it ask you for a username and password when you go to the internet via internet explorer??

No, getting to the internet is fine, just lets the user through.
