I have 2 projectors doing this. An NEC NP-100 and a Promethean PRM-35. I've been told they will need new projectors, as they are out of warranty. Gutted!

:) I used to have the NP-100 in black.

Are you sure as to whether it is dust or the chip?

Use the focus ring on the projector then rotate it fully in one direction and then the other. The white dots should come into sharp focus as small specs (dust) if this happens it is dust and the projector will need a clean.

Use a can of pressurized air to blast the dust inside, this should blast out the dust. If it is the case the dust should have reduced and with regular servicing it should be working normally. Also use a vacuum to clear out the vents etc.

If not the chip needs replacing which is not really cost effective.

Just to add to this comment... make sure the projector is fully cooled down before doing this. I've heard stories of flame throwers happening when a hot projector has been blasted!

It's definitely not dust. I've had an expert look at it! Just getting a price for a 2nd hand projector to replace it.

lmao, yes I concur!! I would also advocate not doing this while the projector is on and blasting the projector with highly flammable compressed 'air' - it's not like it happened to me and I kinda crispified my eyebrows and hair :p
