Setting up a transparent proxy (for a Davis weather station IP logger)

Short time lurker – first time poster!

 

I’m looking for some suggestions as to the best way to proceed with setting up a Davis weather station IP logger, however the actual problem is not necessarily confined to setting up a weather station.

 

I work in a school, and we connect via a proxy server.

 

The software on board the weather station IP logger ‘automatically’ connects to a website and uploads various data. The problem lies with the fact that there is no way to specify a proxy server (just a static IP address only)

 

I’m looking, I guess, for a bit of software that would transparently translate the IP logger traffic up to the proxy server (as I can’t set it on the actual IP logger itself)

Can you not just get a firewall/change request to your local GfL between the weather stations IP and the website?

Is there any way you can get them to update the software to allow for input of proxies?

Getting the software updated isn't an option (their tech support hasn't been to good) however I have contacted my LEA to see if it might be possible to get some kind of direct connection to the net without having to go through the proxy/firewall.

smoothwall express as a transparent proxy - then update client with this as the default gateway.

Some programs won't let you specify a proxy BUT will follow the connection settings in IE.

Smoothwall or something along those lines are kind of what I'm suspecting. No go on IE (proxy settings) as it is a stand-alone unit that plugs directly into a network - small box with an ethernet port on it, with a simple web interface.
