edutech4schools Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Just started to play with MDT Firstly I am trying to capture a clean xp image using MDT 2010 update 1. I have selected sysprep and capture but at the select OS page its blank and errors if I try to move on. I am very very new to this so any advice would be great.
Chuckster Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Install XP and then from the run command go to this location: \\servername\MDTFolder$\Scripts\LiteTouch.vbs This will invoke sysprep. However, you need to ensure you have first created yourself a task sequence that does a sysprep and capture before running the vbs file.

Chuckster Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 You need to import the OS into the Operating Systems folder in the console. This will then allow you to select an OS from the dropdown list in task sequence.

edutech4schools Posted March 23, 2011 Author Posted March 23, 2011 OK next question, Sysprep and capture obviously captures an image for deploment but what does standard client task sequence do. Does it just deploy my OS that I have added to MDT?
Chuckster Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Firstly, yes, you use WDS to pxe boot the MDT boot image. Secondly, you import the newky created syspreped image from the Captures folder into the Operating Systems folder in the MDT console. Then, create a task sequence and select from the dropdown list Standard Client Task, and from there you will be able to choose the image you had created.
edutech4schools Posted March 23, 2011 Author Posted March 23, 2011 I have just tried to run a sysprep and capture task but get invalid credentials (800704c3) at the specify credentials for connecting to network shares screen on the client computer after running litetouch.vbs from deployshare on server. I have googled but only 2 pages are returned and most seem to be related to the older version of mdt. Any hints?

When I try to capture or deploy an xp image, the pc pxe boots ok and displays the 'run deployment wizard page' but the next page errors with, A connection to the deployment share could not be made. The following network device does not have a driver installed. I am using vmware player and had been informed MDT supported this without any additional drivers. If that is not the case do I need to find the vmware network driver and put them into the out-of-box drivers folder in MDT?
sted Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 possibly depends what type of virtual nic you have installed i cant remember if vmware player has a legacy nic or not. Does work out of the box to virtual pc2007 and hyper v
edutech4schools Posted March 24, 2011 Author Posted March 24, 2011 ok installed vpc2007 and it gets further but then errors saying a processor speed of 3mhz is insufficient. I found a hack to change the vdivalidate mdt script too <2mhz before giving an error but no joy.
edutech4schools Posted March 24, 2011 Author Posted March 24, 2011 For those that get the processor error I just removed the processor check text from the validate script. Image is installing as I type.
