RM CC4 and non-RM laptops

Hi guys,

 

Just a quick question to anyone using RM CC4 network with laptops.

My school is upgrading from CC3 to CC4 and we'd like to buy 20 new laptops to go with it. However, we don't want to buy RM laptops as they are twice as expensive as the once from let's say PC world.

Is there anyone out there using the CC4 with any other laptops than RM ones that could be smart build to the RM network? Are there any special requirements?

I tried with RM support but not very lucky.

We have a CC4 network and have hardly any RM laptops. Yes, you can add them to the network using the RM SmartClient, you can also import the laptop drivers into the management console, these will then be installed during the build process.

I'd say buy one and test it. the reason I say test it is because I find they run very slowely. The school purchased RM laptops and a Lapsafe Trolley for a department and by my recogning and the lack of calls we get for them, they are not been used. They take a while to boot up and log onto the network but that is pass and parcel of the build they have and what they are used for.

Cheers guys....does anyone use any particular laptops you know work well with CC4?

We don't have CC4 but I know a school who are experiencing a lot of trouble with Lenovo laptops falling over at the bootstrapper stage of the smartclient process. I think it's related to the wireless cards in them. We have 150 Acer laptops that connect easily to CC3. Hopefully they'll do the same when we get CC4.

We have found that toshiba are very reliable and build well onto the CC4 network with no failures at all

 

As long as they are capable of running Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate and they have the required nic drivers embedded in the build process then Bob's your Uncle and Fannies your Aunt

 

Over the past 9 years we have never used RM hardware just the RMMC software and it just works
