basicchannel Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Hello Hello, I want to do a course in May that's based in Hackney (non-work course; just for personal enrichment). I'm kinda nervous though because it's an evening course and I don't want to get stabbed up getting the train home. Is Hackney really that bad or am I just pedalling an age-old stereotype?

London is fine, just don't do anything or say anything daft to get yourself in trouble and you'll be fine. From someone who moved from Essex to London...

somabc Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Parts of Hackney; Hoxton, Shoreditch, Dalston are totally gentrified and the rest is 'up and coming' so I'm sure you'll be fine. Stay away from the housing estates though.
MK-2 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) lived in Hackney for 20 years, and despite what people here say, yes it is that bad. i know some will argue against, but having lived there, and lost friends due to the issues that plague hackney (and many other areas) i can't suddenly say "oh its a lovely area". advice for everywhere i know, but i'd say as long as you're careful...not playing with your phone while walking, not showing your wallet etc you should be ok.
