laptop battery nearing end of life

Hi there

When you get the message about batteries nearing the end of their life, does this mean that the laptop is still usable as long as it's plugged in? Or will I still have to replace the battery?

The laptop will be fine to use as long as you keep it plugged in. After a few years batteries tend to loose efficiency.

Yes, in most cases it will be fine as long as it's plugged into the mains. But some just aren't made to work without laptop batteries in them, even with the AC adapter plugged in. Sony Vaio is one in particular that's made this way.
