Biometric units

Out of interest, does anyone use biometric clocks in school (similar to the one like http://www.tasolutions.co.za/images/sy-745.JPG?)

 

If so, do you find they are prone to breaking down? We have a number of them which have become broken & will not stay on - they need to be switched onto battery power each time someone wants to use it to register.

Hi there,

I studied Biometrics a few years ago back for my uni degree and theres are a few things to consider before implementing biometrics

Im assuming its a School.

 

Training users to be able to scan their finger in.

Scan time the time it takes to scan a finger in

time it takes to match to a database,

dirt and last persons imprint left on the scanner. (who cleans the screen after each time a finger is scanned)

 

if you imagine the scenario, you have 30 kids in a line and u have to get them to scan their finger in "one at a time" how would that take to scan them all, verified and logged.

a normal registers would still be a lot quicker and a lot cheaper.

I can agree with exactly everything you said there ... especially the time issue with 30 kids.

 

We have the clocks throughout the school already, but the reason why I asked was to see if anyone had issues with power supplies to them - we seem to have a large number of issues here. For a small class though, or indeed staff - the clocks work perfectly. It's just finding the time for adequate training & then staff encouragement etc.
