Link Speed Tester

Hi,

My School currently has a 100MB link between sites, I am convinced that it isn't running at that. It there a free tool to test the speed between them?

have a look at speedtest.net

only to set up a temp ftp and dl a 100mb file see what speed ya getting..

 

speedtest wont relay prove any thing to many variables in place.. and your after site to site.. speedtest don't do site to site.

 

ftp is best.

ftp is best but I've always found speedtest to be a good indicator though.

Hi,

you mention 100Mb link between sites are these local sites on the school campus or further apart?

is the 100mb link an internet link provided by your ISP or a local fibre / copper cable between blocks or buildings on the same campus

If the link is a physical one from one site to another speedtest.net is no good.

 

If it is a locally installed fibre/copper link then have it tested.

download the speed test utility which lets you copy from server to client aross a link to try to workout the available bandwidth
