I'm going to try and ressurect him but I've tried a couple of the simple fixes and they didn't work. On a different note, Tescos and PC World currently have the new Xbox 360 S 250Gb consoles for £159. I will be picking one up later today.

RetroTech Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Use the Team Xecuter PRO RROD Kit, follow the instructions properly and you will get it back to life. Dont mess about with towels or overheating the box - just take it apart, clean it up (dab of isopropyl), replace the heat sink bolts/pads - apply thermal paste - run it with the fans disconnected for a few mins to allow it to reflow and your be back up and running. Start to finish 30 mins at most for a first timer .

If we stop the gym membership for a bit and just use the Wii Fit I suppose I could justify it ...

I don't think they fail as often as people think they do: don't forget that you only ever hear people saying when one has failed, nobody posts to say "yup, still going!" lol. Admittedly, they are the worst console out at the moment in terms of hardware fails though, although I'm yet to hear of anyone having the slim model fail on them... I've had an original 15gb 360 Xbox for nearly 4 years now with no problems.

I went ahead and bought a new one from PC World for £159. 250Gb HD, 'n' wireless built in, they are very very quiet, a lot smaller and use less power. I'm very happy with it.
