Making internally hosted Eclipse .Net available externally. Questions

For those of you who have Eclipse .Net internally, how many of you have made it available externally?

How did it go / perform?

I'm not terribly comfortable putting it on the Internet simply because I don't trust the programmers to write decent (read: secure) code and $LEA forbids DMZs. So a compromised host is compromised and sat on our internal LAN. Given Eclipse needs to talk to AD for users, I'm even less enthusiastic about it.

Could you put it on a new VLAN with a Read-Only domain controller on the same?

Sorry, not a user of eclipse myself - just an idea for risk-mitigation. Otherwise it sounds like a major nightmare...
