Just a quick query regarding provisioning users in SLG...

Is it better to provision all staff and/or student SLG accounts in one go, or has anyone provisioned a few users as a test before doing thr entire rest of your staff/student groups?

Any comments gladly received :)

I've seen both, but it's better to provision at least one as a test since then if anything does go wrong you only have a dozen or so provisioning requests to delete, rather than thousands.

Thanks for the reply :)

I've been trying to find more documentation as I've heard that Capita suggest you provision all your staff users in one go, and all your students in one go?

Sounds horrible to me and more likely to fail...

Has anyone else heard this?

It's no more likely to fail than provisioning a single user - the service involved generally either works perfectly, or fails to work, there isn't really much middle ground. If it fails it just doesn't create the users - the actual requests aren't lost, and can be usually run through after the service has been fixed.

Even if you provision all of your users at once, they'll be created sequentially so there should be no risk of blowing up your AD (or Capita's, if you're on hosted).

Nope, but we did it in groups. Key staff were done first (myself, SIMS manager and a couple others), then the SLT was done > then the ATs (head of years) > then the CLs (Head of Depts) > then the rest.

I did around 150 staff in one go and tend to do the students a year group at a time. As as has been posted above, if it stops on a user it's easy to delete it and hopefully it will resume.
