DVD Rippers

My Media Teacher is looking for a DVD ripper for a PC that he can rip sections of a DVD out and store them as an AVI or MPEG...

 

The ones that I know just rip the entire DVD..

 

Anyone know of a Ripper that we can use to grab sections of DVD's ?

We used Camtasia to take a DVD clip we commissioned and convert to AVI, worked fine. (it's on our web site now)

 

You have to be careful with copyright etc. Don't RIP a commercial DVD it could get very messy.

Kinda .. in a way... we just want 2 min of something and two min of something else..

 

The is an I-Pod ripping software that does a very good job... you just forward the DVD to the secrion that you want

 

Pause the DVD

Select Record on the ripping software

play the DVD for two min

select stop on Both the DVD and Ripping software..

 

and you have an MPEG4 of the two min clip.. the only problem is that it is very low quality as it is ripping for and I-Pod..

If it's commercial then it'll have copy protection then you cannot legally rip it (as you have to bypass the copy protection to do so).

DVDx will do it in one go - open DVD, configure in/out formats, set output file and hit the Red button.

I use DVDShrink & SUPER©.

 

I either make a folder with all the VOBs in as the original disc, or 1 big VOB containing all the video. Or, re-author with just the bits you need.

 

Once ripped to hard disc, use SUPER© to convert to required format. If you need to chop bits out then use windows Movie maker to crop the file down more.

I use DVDRip you can clip sections using it but need to rip entire dvd first. it will save to avi, vcd -xvid divx etc and will resize (good for portables).

Considering my home system (2yrs ago) was 100% pirated software and now the stupid dvd libraries (and maybe some other codecs) are the only dubious softwares, I'd say I'm reformed.
