jamesb Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I am absolutely certain that there must be some way to do this. Essentially I've got one library (currently in the root, but that's flexible) which is my 'master' library - I then want to have the same library available in other site collections, using only the one copy (all other 'copies' of the library would be read-only). I'm positive that there's a way to do this, but really can't work out how. Any help greatly appreciated.

I can't remember off the top of my head how I configured it but I do recall it being quite easy. Have a go and if you get stuck I'll look more closely at how mine work. 1

Yup I'll 2nd it can be done, but don't have my SP Environment in front of me.. let me get home and i'll get a more in depth answer for you (if no one sorts it before me) 1
rpwillis Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I think that the Content Query Web Part is limited to the same site collection. Similarly for the Data View Web Part you can add using SharePoint Designer. There are some free solutions to exposing a list from another site collection. FlexListViewer for MOSS 2007 / WSS v3! - Portals & Integration blog - blog community Pages - Cross-Site-List-Snapshot and a couple of commercial offerings including mine Rollup SharePoint Lists and Libraries - Lightning Conductor Web Part SalamanderSoft Limited - List View Web Part 1
jamesb Posted February 10, 2011 Author Posted February 10, 2011 Thanks to all who replied - I've actually ended up going with a different (though potentially more headache-producing) solution to the problem, in trying to build a custom usage receiver to track usage between separate sites using a handful of custom profiles attributes to link users with their 'group'.
