Edu-IT Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Anyone have experience of serving media using IIS? If so, what do you think? Serving Media Content : The Official Microsoft IIS Site The idea is that we convert our DVD collection to a format which we can stream through this. Alternatively I was thinking of using something like phpmotion.
zag Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 (edited) I gave this a go a while back and had it all integrated in sharepoint using MMS. But to be honest the staff prefer to simple go to the video share on the network to play them. With Wireless N these days there are no bandwidth issues that I have come across. We use imtoo dvd ripper to get the videos in WMV format, just keep the bitrate down and it works really well. Edited February 4, 2011 by zag
glennda Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 We have a student that is building his own version oh phpmotion which he possibly going to release once he has a few more things sorted with it
danbuntu Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 we had problems getting phpmotion to work right and so ended up with vshare running on an ubuntu box and it's working really well for us so far
localzuk Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Personally, I'd do as danbuntu has - use a linux virtual machine to do it. Maybe even look at MediaCore. Also, remember that copying DVDs, even if you are only using it internally, is against copyright law without authorisation from the copyright holder for each DVD. It isn't covered by any of the 'blanket' style licenses out there.
