I have a 3com 2952 on which I configured some vlans: VLAN 200 for ports 1-16 (192.168.2.0/24), Configured Valn-interface with ip 192.168.2.1. In this vlan I have my clients. Each port is untagged for vlans 1,200 and PVID is 200. Link type is Hybrid. VLAN 100 for ports 17-20 (192.168.1.0/24) Configured Vlan-interfaces with ip 192.168.1.1. In this vlan I have my servers. Vlan 1 is the default vlan and management. The switch has ip 192.168.0.2. I have a vlan-interface for vlan 1 and its ip is 192.168.0.2 My internet router has ip 192.168.0.3 and it is connected to the switch on port 45. Port 45 is untagged for vlan 1 and PVID is 1. Link type is hybrid. I have configured a default route in network--->ipv4 routing in the navigation tree in this way: destination ip adress: 0.0.0.0 Mask: 0.0.0.0 Next hop: 192.168.0.3 But my clients (192.168.2.0/24) cannot connect to internet. I cannot ping the router or open dns (208.67.220.220). Can you help me please?
riffleman Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 (edited) You need to add an interface for your VLAN for each subnet you are using on your router. At the moment there is no route between VLANs, so clients cannot see the router as it is in a different subnet because the 2952 is a layer 2 switch, so cannot route by itself. zeux Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 The 2952 can route packets between vlans on different subnets using vlan-interface. I create for each vlan one vlan-interface on the switch. Infact clients (valn 200 and subnet 192.168.2.0/24) can reach the servers (vlan 100 and subnet 192.168.1.0/24). I have set the default route with next hop 192.168.0.3 (router ip). Because of I'm in testing phase my router is a simple netgear dg834g....

If I remember correctly, if you set the default gateway on the switch's network settings, all VLAN interfaces will use that address, so that should be set to forward to your router. riffleman Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 You shouldn't need to put in a route for 0.0.0.0 because the default gateway setting will handle that.

riffleman Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 When you provided the switch with it's networking details, it should have asked for an ip address, subnet mask and a default gateway. Im not familiar with this exact 3com switch, but every other 3com switch I've ever setup has needed those settings. In your case the gateway should be the address of your router.

riffleman Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Have you ran the setup wizard from the web interface? The setup manual says that it can accept a default gateway as part of its network settings.

Page 29 tells you how to do it using the CLI, via the ipsetup command (ipsetup { dhcp | ip address ip-address { mask | mask-length } [ default-gateway ip-address ] }). 1

Thanks to all What was the issue on your Netgear? I am having this exact same issue, but my endpoint device is a Cisco ASA 5505. I can create the vlans and vlan interfaces. I can see devices on the other vlans, but I can't connect to our firewall for access to the internet. Pretty stuck ATM.
