elsiegee40 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Oh joy! No email in school this morning. Support call to RM suggests that "we think one of our servers is down"... nothing on their website yet Last time this happened it was loads of servers and we lost EasyMail for 4 days
zag Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Why rely on RM when you have gmail for education and live@edu these days? I think the world goes crazy if they are down for a couple of minutes let alone a couple of days. Basically they are fixed very very fast
witch Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Our easymail goes down during almost every spell of bad weather due to a cable breaking that goes over a large hill out in the wilds somewhere - they never seem to think "oh, what can we do about this?" Having said that though - it is fixed pretty quickly in almost all cases
elsiegee40 Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 Currently a proportion of EasyMail accounts in your establishment will be unavailable whilst others are fully available. Some of your colleagues may be able to access email, whilst others can't. At the moment we're taking steps to prevent email sent to affected mailboxes being lost. Please be assured that this is being worked on with the highest priority. Our engineers and support partners are continuing to work day and night on this issue. That was posted last night... 5 days its been out. (and back and out again) I agree about live@edu and I'm looking into migrating, but these things can't be done overnight
localzuk Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 What on Earth takes 5 days to fix? If its a server issue, they should have at least 4 hour onsite repair warranty with something as important as email servers, they should have backups, and a simple 'reinstall' procedure. Its a day's work tops! 5 days is crazy! I'd be lynched here if anything I ran was down for that long!
glennda Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 5 Days is completely unacceptable - what does the SLA say about the Availability of such services?
localzuk Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 5 Days is completely unacceptable - what does the SLA say about the Availability of such services? SLA? Never seen an SLA with the SWGfL...
CyberNerd Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 SLA? Never seen an SLA with the SWGfL... Never seen one with SEGfL (RM) either....
glennda Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Hmm - We get one from Our LEA with which describes all the services provided by them and also the cost of such services etc - I hadn't seen it until I asked our Finance Department for it when i was looking at if it would be cheaper to bring services in house.
elsiegee40 Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 The 11:30am update We have worked round the clock on the current issues, and made significant progress. All mailboxes are currently available. However, there are still issues that we need to resolve. To complete this work it's possible that there will be further disruption today. While we complete this work the EasyMail Administration site will remain unavailable. Please bear in mind, email sent since Friday may take some time to arrive in your mailbox. I can't get to the admin system, so I can't even redirect the affected mailboxes. The most important one affected here is that of our registrar... this could potentially cost us fees if we lose a pupil due to failure to respond. She's been busy on the phone today.
witch Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Our easymail went down yesterday - but only for SOME accounts. I nearly got accused of lying when I explained that a)my account is fine so I didn't realise there is a issue, and b) it is WEBMAIL and therefore nothing to do with my network/server or anything else. The teacher concerned was trying to access it on her HOME machine anyway
elsiegee40 Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 We have some accounts that are working fine, some that aren't working at all and some (mine for example) that are working intermittently. That said, I've received no email on my account this morning, even though I can access the mailbox, so I don't think it's working properly for me. The sooner I can move us over to Live@edu the better.
andyturpie Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 same here - some accounts working fine, others not, coming up with the server cannot be reached message. A few weeks ago, this happened to only one user at our school and it took over a week to recover her mailbox as it suffered massive corruption.
andyturpie Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 RM EasyMail Plus Current Issue - Last Updated: 07 Feb 2011 - 11:30 (Current Issue) 07 Feb 2011 - 11:30 Brief Description: RM EasyMail Plus Issue: We have worked round the clock on the current issues, and made significant progress. Once again, we'd like to apologise for the inconvenience that this is causing you.
elsiegee40 Posted February 7, 2011 Author Posted February 7, 2011 The status this evening: The previously affected mailboxes have been available since 08:45 today (Monday 7th February). Email sent since Friday has steadily been arriving in mailboxes and we expect it all to be delivered by tomorrow morning. No email has been lost during this issue. We've identified a small area of the application that is showing some corruption, which we are taking steps to resolve in the safest way possible. Our engineers are still working on the platform round the clock. Should we need to perform further maintenance we'll let you know via this page and the EasyMail web interface. We need to keep the EasyMail Admin site off-line to minimise changes while our work continues. We hope to re-enable this within the next 48 hours. We understand that this will affect your user administration, for which we apologise. Another 2 days! I dispute their time-scales... this has been going on since February 3rd
witch Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Well the problems have had an interesting result here -someone asked me to unblock googlemail as they had received an important email this way due to easymail being down over the weekend. I pointed out that I could only unblock on the curriculum network, not the admin network attached to their computer, so they merrily gave me their password and username so that I could forward the email to a now working easymail account. I think the person forgot that you can't forward it unless you open it, and anyway the mere title of the email was..erm...about something that I am sure the person did not want anyone in school to know!! Blackmail anyone???
glennda Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Blackmail anyone??? i can help if you would like to be kept out of it - we can split 50/50 if you like it can then fund my next gadget!
