ozydave Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I have had a request for an outside agency who teach our betec students if they can be given access so they can log attendance and fill in reports/ profiles etc. They will be crb checked of course. My first thought is SIMS learning gateway. Anyone else do this? Data protection and all that scare me to death! Any thoughts, tips any other software that might be better?

ozydave Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 Hi not heard of Partnership Exchange will have a look at this now Cheers
creese Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 It is designed to share data between schools and other agencies. We have 2 schools using it and a neighbouring authority have it in all schools.
Banjo Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Doesn't everyone need to have Sims for that to work? If the outside agency is an FE College then they are not likely to have it. 1
Sylv3r Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 We give access to outside agencies in school to our SIMS Learning Gateway, but those students that attend neighbouring colleges etc. a register is taking before they leave. Reports are copied and pasted into Profiles for EOY reports. 1
ozydave Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 If the outside agency needs to have sims then it will be a no go. I guess it migth be just SLG will lots of forms for them to sign!
matt40k Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 No, PX is a hacked version of SIF, it has more security then SIF had at the time (believe this is now resolved\or going to be). Basically data goes between the schools SIMS and whatever the FE college MIS is. If that fails, GroupCall are pretty good from what I hear, failing that SIMS API, but that's going to be a big headache and tons more worrying.
superfletch Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 How many people are there? Could you give the company a couple of locked down machines with VPN access to normal (not SLG) SIMS user accounts which let them do what they need? Giving them a couple of preconfigured machines would be a lot cheaper than either SLG or PX. On the other hand if you already have SLG it is probably an easier and better option.
