last weekend, I rooted and installed Cyanogenmod for my HTC desire as I had run out of room for apps and wanted to regain the space occupied by HTC Sense.

(And of course, to stop being publicly humiliated by Domino :) )

That's worked out great and a side effect of doing it has been a great increase in battery life - e.g. I use it all day and its not on red level down the pub in the evening :)

(Could just be due to clearout but its a fact anyway :) )

But I've just discovered that you can bypass the need to use 2 hands to switch the thing out of standby by designating the trackball switch to do the same job - hallelujah !!!!! :D

A 1000% increase in user friendliness and worth the price of admission alone :)

I don't know what you mean ;)

Have you also tried enabling the lock screen gestures? For instance I've one which turns the torch function on or off after drawing a curve on the screen - handy for fumbling in the dark

Matron!

OT: CyanogenMOD does rock, doesn't it? One of my favourite things about it is the ability to add shortcuts to the notification bar to turn on/off various settings like WiFi and Bluetooth - just makes using the phone that little bit more intuitive :)

I'm trying out a different ROM at the minute - Oxygen. Battery life isn't as good, but I have so much free space now! With all the apps I had installed on Cyano, I had 15mb free space left, with Oxygen I have about 120mb free space!
