I've tried to suggest certain people use dropbox instead of flash drives for certain things but the fact it's free makes smt very nervous about the prospect of storing sensitive data in it. Despite the fact the site clearly says uses "military grade encryption methods to both transfer and store your data. "

I think they'd be happier paying for something.

Are there any companies that provide a similar service specifically to education?

Here are a few more...

BoxSync - I'm not sure how much it costs for education (businesses are charged $15/user/month!!!), but it looks really good.

iFolder - An open-source Dropbox clone which you can host at school. Requires a SUSE Linux server, but has clients for Windows, Mac OS X & Linux.

the fact it's free makes smt very nervous about the prospect of storing sensitive data in it.

Even if they pay for something, it doesn't change the fact that students will still use insecure passwords.

Dropbox - Dropbox for Teams Information - Online backup, file sync, and sharing made easy.

Dropbox is head and shoulders above rival cloud offerings.

I agree Dropbox is above its rivals, but the team pricing is very expensive, don't you think? I'm looking for a solution to share 5-10 gb between 15 people. With dropbox for teams, this will cost me a fortune.

I pay out for the $9.99/month for 50GB and have done so for over a year - best use of $10/month of my money to sync my techfiles across all the servers in each of my schools. :)

If you want to have team account, run it from a server and then just create shares to folders within the dropbox for team members to use and give them shortcuts or mapped drives to these folders.

If they need personal dropbox facilites - install the 2GB free options on their laptops/desktops/home machines. This is how the teachers run in one of my schools - they use there own dropbox account on their machines but they also have access to a folder within my account on the server.
