As not everybody is going to have a 64bit machine to run it on but my net connection is being slow! Would you like the GUI on it? or prefer to leave it command line so you have the option to install it yourself? GUI ... not everyone prefers to use CLI.

To start with we were using Showpoint, which simply displays the most recent powerpoint slide show in a specificed folder: PresentationPoint | ShowPoint control remotely
3s-gtech Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 We moved from Showpoint to Xibo. Debian x86 on an old Dell PE 2550, running LAMP. Easiest thing to set up. Then it's just web interface. One thing I've found is that the client causes the .net 2.0 Dr Watson app to pop up after a while, thinking that Powerpoint has crashed. I just deleted that Dr Watson (dw20.exe in Program Files) and it works lovely now

I don't think the software is that much better than Xibo but I like the idea of centrally controlling the power of the screens and makes it a bit neater on the installation

(its about 2.8gb) although we should be able to zip the file. We've got Xibo at the moment and pretty happy with it but looking at new screens we'll probably go down the Samsung Magicinfo route. I don't think the software is that much better than Xibo but I like the idea of centrally controlling the power of the screens and makes it a bit neater on the installation I control all mine with shutdown script running on a server at 6pm simply shutdown -f -m \\xibobox then wake them up using a wake on lan script at 730 am. plexer Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Our screens have an on/off time built in to them so thats set but rather than have to edit them and the computers shutdown routines in the holidays I'm thinking of just displaying an all black screen for those times? Ben

Regarding the powerpoint aspect; all you have to do is save the presentation as a slide show and upload to the MediaCAT, then It will play fine.

Cache Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 We've got Xibo here, the server side I've got Ubuntu configured on (dare I admit it) Virtual PC 2007 and just power it up and down when I need to update the client. The intention is to farm the virtual server off on to another machine at some point in the future, but while we're getting going with it it's working pretty well for us.
Navaho Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Could be a deal-breaker there... Not sure if you have seen our post yesterday? the powerpoint aspect is easily resolved by simply saving the presentation as a slide show and then uploading to the MediaCAT, works perfectly.

What info do you need for the recommend (pm me) - it should be around a 2.5gb file i think maybe a bit less.

We've just reimaged all our Samsung screens with Xibo to get rid of the MagicInfo stuff, as it it truly a pile of poo!
