Problem with Technet Subscription

I'm just about at the stage when I'll get myself a Technet subscription. I've seen promotional codes so went to the sign-up page yesterday. I entered the code and, whilst there was a box for a valid EU VAT Number, this wasn't mandatory (i.e. no red asterisk). It wouldn't progress any further with the order process. However, if I removed the promotional code, it did proceed, despite my not having an EU VAT Number.

 

Has anyone else encountered this? I know that several have purchased subscriptions and, whilst many will have been via a school, college etc., I'm sure there are folks who have purchased the subscription privately for their own use at home. I would be in this category.

 

The other thing is that MS have reduced the number of keys for the software from 10 to 5 (for the professional subscription) or 2 (for the standard subscription). I guess that 10 was a little generous but am surprised by such a large drop for the standard subscription. I just wish I'd got it arranged 6 months ago before MS introduced the change

I had a problem when I tried to renew that would only let me change to the DVD subscription at a much higher cost or take out a new subscription at full price. I rang them and discovered there was a problem with their site so it might be worth giving them a call. (I pay for my own subscription)

Thanks - I'll give them a call. I've done some searching for codes that are valid in the UK and they used to be fairly easy to find. Does anyone know if MS has clamped down on the availability of promotional codes as well as the number of activation keys that are provided to Technet subscribers?

I hardly use all my activation keys so never seem to have a problem - 5 is more than enough don't you think for each product ?

Although on checking mine I still have 10 on some items - maybe it's because I have hardly used some of them.....

It'll be interesting to see how many are displayed when you renew your subscription.

 

As a matter of interest, I saw a blog that made a comment about current subscribers who have >2 or >5 keys (depending upon the level of subscription). Their installations could be illegal ... but I don't know what MS can do about that, other than do online tracking if the installations are allowed to access the 'net.

I seem to have 20 keys on alot of my items.....
