theeldergeek Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Just felt compelled to post to the forum that I am now well on the road to recovery but to make others aware that this flu can strike anyone completely unaware. Just after Christmas (about the 27th) I started feeling unwell with 'man flu'. Days later I was in hospital very, very unwell with pneumonia, c-difficile and a couple of "unspecified" viruses to top things off. Several days of some very strong antibiotics, a lot of love and care from my family and an excellent health-care team, I started to improve. I make no bones that I was told I was very unwell and possibly at one point, only a few hours from not making it. Fortunately, the condition was diagnosed quickly, and the right drugs were administered in a timely manner. I'm out of hospital now, feeling a lot better, but have a bit of a haul to get back to health. I am still coming to terms with what happened, and am completely knocked over as to how fatigued I am. Even brushing my teeth in the morning takes it out of me. I would urge you all to get yourself vaccinated. I am a 46 year old bloke, generally in good health, I'm not the picture of fitness, but I'm not someone you would consider "at risk" either. Maybe I was unlucky, feeling a bit run down at the wrong time of year, but I'm going to ensure I am vaccinated every year from now. Thank you for reading and I can honestly say how pleased I am to be amongst you still. I wish you all health and well-being. 1
laserblazer Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Wow! I've just been watching the news about the little girl who died. So sad. But I'm glad to hear you are on the road to recovery. Look after yourself and don't try to rush things.
elsiegee40 Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 So glad to hear you're on the road to recovery. Take care and take time... it will take time to get your energy levels back after something like this. Don't be too impatient to 'get back to normal'.
witch Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 So glad to hear you're on the road to recovery. Real Flu *(as opposed to a bad cold) and pneumonia take a long time to recover from. Dont go back to work too early - IMHE you may think you are OK because you feel much better than you did - but you are not really better! So was it swine flu or not? I am very glad to hear that you are OK
Little-Miss Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Eek...i'm "at risk" because of my asthma but havent been too fussed about the vaccine (im also still trying to get over a needle phobia). May have to have a rethink....
glennda Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Glad to here your okay - my little brother had swine flu last year and spent nearly 3 weeks in bed!

plexer Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 Glad to hear you're getting better. I think it's still the case though that you can only get vaccinated if you are in an at risk group. Ben
tech_guy Posted January 13, 2011 Posted January 13, 2011 OMG sorry to hear you've been so unwell and here's wishing you a very speedy recovery back to full health!
ButterflyMoon Posted January 14, 2011 Posted January 14, 2011 So sorry to hear you have been so ill. I hope you are on the road to recovery but as Witch says this is not going to be a quick fix you are going to feel fatigued for a fair while yet. Just you take care
theeldergeek Posted January 14, 2011 Author Posted January 14, 2011 So was it swine flu or not? This was 'ordinary' Flu.
