Try as Gatt suggested, read only on the share.

 

We give Full Control, as i've never gone and explicity worked out which folders require full access and which only need read. Full access is only for a small handful of users mind, mostly using things like options, nova etc.

 

Remember the most restrictive permissions will apply through the share. It's worth putting an explicit deny for students as a safety catch.

 

I think there was a post sometime ago, by Bossman that detailed how he'd sorted permissions for SIMS. I've found that on the whole, people ignore the S drive, so it's not a huge issue, as they never need direct access to it.

Yeah, i have to say my lot dont pay attention to shared drives accept their Staff Common and the kid's Common area...

 

Will defo do the deny for the kids.

You know how you leave things working and then you revisit it a couple of weeks later and it has stopped working! lol

 

Right, log on as Admin, SIMS runs fine. Log in as a member of staff which is more restricted etc and it says the usual "incorrect s:\sims\connect.ini". Any ideas? A permissions thing?

Yes i thought we fixed this.

Either it's the permissions to access the shared drive, and also check the ntfs permissions on the folder itself, as with a share, the most restrictive will apply.

Also just make sure the S drive is mapped, as i get that error when it can't see it yet. Double clicking it in My Computer helps.
