Teachers don't get paid enough? PAH! lol ...

Our ICT Teacher has come in today asking if there's anything I can do about her iPad. She signed it up to her school e-mail account as iTunes wasn't letting her sign in with her iTunes account for some reason.

 

Anyway, fair play, she's come in and said 'I needed to do it as the kids wanted to play with it over Christmas, but I know I shouldn't of, can you sort it' so, I explained I should be able to get it linked up to her personal iTunes, but if she's bought anything, she'll probably have to repurchase the things.

 

Her response "Oh well, the kids will just have to buy everything again, they've only spent about £20 so far on apps, and I'm sure they'll be buying more" lol ..

 

Disposable income to buy an iPad and give the kids free reign to buy apps .. lol .. Maybe I should go into teaching! lol ..

 

Just amused me .. probably one of those "you had to be there" moments, so I expect some tumbleweeds, but there we go ..

I often find teachers very stingey. Most of our teachers will refuse to buy anything we recommend (in order to make their life easier) and instead usually ask us if we have any spare. Like the time a certain head of year came in and asked us to look at her daughter's personal PC. As we were nice guys at the time, we did it without moaning. It needed a new hard disk...cue the HOY saying she hasn't got the money (on over £40k per year) and neither does her daughter. At the time, the hard disk she needed was only about £30.

Lol .. that is the usual case .. I don't mind having a quick look at staff machines if I'm not busy .. but generally try to avoid it if i can ..

I'll help the staff out with their home PCs - and I'll help them a second time as long as payment for the first time was liquid and red, or distilled in Scotland...

 

Nowt for nowt though - even NQTs get paid better than us!

We get teachers moaning about restrictions on their staff laptops and how they want to be able to do this and that with it, I always just think, how much are you on? Why not just go and buy a laptop and then you could do anything you wanted with it!

Or ones that will beg for a really old, crappy one we would have otherwise given to be recycled when they could buy one 5 times better for a few hundred quid

Teacher: "Oh, well what are you going to do with it? I've got some cash if that's the problem"

Me: "That's not the issue, the issue is that SLT have told me I need to have the computers disposed of through a recycling firm and I'm not allowed to sell any to staff as they don't want the accounting problems."

Teacher: "Well can't you just slip one of them to me"

Me: "Yes, if I want to lose my job. Look, how much money have you got? I'll see if I can find you a decent laptop that you can then go and buy."

Teacher: "Well, I haven't really got that much. I'll just make do with the new one we bought a couple of months back for the family"

 

That was actually, not quite word for word, but it's the jist of a conversation I actually had with a member of staff .. They wanted an old Dell 505 Laptop, with it's massive 512mb of RAM (and that's because I upgraded them to get us over a sticky period) and teeny hard drive to use instead of their nice shiny Acer with 2GB of Ram and moderately sized hard drive (ok, theiy new one was Vista, so maybe it was XP that swung them, but there we go .. lol)

We sell off our old laptops every year to staff for a small fee. This year we had one teacher who put is name down, was picked out of the hat, and then forced us to wait almost a whole month until next payday before he could buy it (becuase he couldn't afford it). I couldn't afford one so I didn't put my name down.
