GREED Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Looking for a short weekend break in early Jan, anyone recommend a good place to stay (as in hotel and breakfast only, basically a place to sleep!)???

joe90bass Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 We stayed at the Wentworth hotel about 2 1/2 years ago. I highly advise you to avoid it. The room was tatty, the owner had his own party in the (small) bar so if we'd wanted a drink we'd have been gatecrashing... reading a few comments online it seems things are still the same.....

Without being too personal. You can get a great meal at The George in Bathampton, a couple of miles outside the city.

Well, I want to get away for a quiet weekend with the missus, always wanted to go to Bath and have a look round. I want to be in the centre of the city so that I don't have to drive/park/pay for the trouble, I have found ones further out that are around £90 but are like 12miles out. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll look The George up!

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll look The George up! It's a really nice place. Royal Crescent area is good. No.1 is a museum. There is an oriental museum, also good. The Spa is a must visit. Some good shopping. You need a weekend. Also the American Museum at Claverton. There are also some National Trust places, Dyrham, Prior Park (no parking but you can get a bus to the door)

If you are willing to stay out of the centre I can tell you that there is now plenty of parking, and the routes in are never that congested (20 minute trip from Midsomer Norton). There are plenty of B&B's in the surrounding villages. Norton Radstock... know it well. How's Radco. Spent an age at the racecourse waiting for a P&R bus that never came the other week. So missed the Xmas market. Won't put me off Bath though. Edit: Would always recommend The Hollies in Pensford (for the Aker Bilk fans). Really nice people running the B&B.

I have now gone overseas, Wales, well, over river anyway. Holistic therapist and actress/producer. Her double was on BBC last night in the Accidental Farmer (not Lynda baron )

I think I went there on a school trip many a year ago. I think we were hoping to avoid a b&b this time around just because my other half is quite shy and would prefer a more urban type hotel setup than an intimate small place.
