TechSupp Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Interested in using the Teamviewer software for remote acces to my own PC but cant see from the site if I have to install on the PC I will be sat at (I know I have to install on the remote PC) or if its a program I can just run from my memory stick. If it is an install are there any other free options available to use (Logmein is blocked).
Admiral208 Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I use it to access my home PC from work and vice versa. If youre going to use it regularly, install it as you would any other program. I believe there is an option to run it without installing any files (from a memory stick)
rh91uk Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 TeamViewer Download ... scroll down for TeamViewer Portable 1
p858snake Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 There is a portable version that works well for the remote party on portableapps.com, there is also a portable download on the site but i don't know if that differs.
FN-GM Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I use it for personal use abit. Friends and family have it on there computers and i remote in and help if i can. Use it on both Mac & Windows 1
TechSupp Posted December 18, 2010 Author Posted December 18, 2010 Just set it up and its brilliant! Wish I'd sat down and looked at this before.
m25man Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Word of warning, Team viewer is free for personal use only. Suspected commercial use will result in your MAC address being blacklisted on Teamviewer servers which seriously impedes it's effectiveness. Once your blacklisted only a MAC Address change will let you use it for more than 5 mins. So how do you get on the suspected commercial use list... I have tested this several times and it appears to happen when you have established more than one or two concurrent sessions to different ip addresses. Teamviewer is an excellent product and gives good value as a commercial product however it is easy for users to get flagged for suspected commercial use even when they are not... This can be mitigated by using VM such as xpmode or virtual box where the MAC address can be changed easily. Also consider Mikogo, better if you are likely to fall into the commercial use trap it has most of the features but lacks some of the Teamviewer Add on's like an iPad client and the host based installer.
TechSupp Posted December 19, 2010 Author Posted December 19, 2010 Only need it to access home computer, have work VPN to get from home to work.
sionide Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 This can be mitigated by using VM such as xpmode or virtual box where the MAC address can be changed easily. This seems a bit dishonest.. Problem is, the smallest legit license is for business use at £400 odd. Perhaps they should do an "advanced home" user type of license where it's a little easier on the pocket/wallet but would allow multiple sessions etc.
macmcmacerson Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 We use it, works really well. We install it onto the Macs but there is a portable version available (Windows or Mac).
