Any budding car mechanics out there?

Well the school re-opened today (in 3ft of snow) so had to get there...

 

Went to turn my car key would not turn!!!!! half an hour later of messing around the key turned, car started happy man...

 

Just gone back to my car to check on it.... same problem only this time after 40mins of messing around no turn of the key?

 

Any ideas? tryed turning the wheel (steering lock), WD40....

Maybe you put a wet key the water has froze in the lock?

What vehicle? Hot weather usually does for Vauxhall barrels.

pug 206 (04 plate).... key goes all the way in but will not turn! will try a hot key dipped in boilng water....

use a lighter to warm the key up and then try to lock. This is normally the best way to deal with a frozen lock

make sure the keys dry before it goes in, hot water freezes very quickly!.

My sister had this problem with her 107 a while ago, I think it turned out to be her immobiliser (though I remember something about the key battery?)

Citroën's used to have a similar problem. Have you tried the second key for the car (presuming that you have it)? Normally, its an issue with battery not providing enough juice to transponder in the key.

 

On some of the Citroën's the steering lock was an electronic solenoid. It's a reasonable guess that the Pug range would have a similar setup. If there is not enough juice, the transponder won't talk to the immobiliser and that in turn won't tell the solenoid to release.

The kay would still turn if the imboliser was not working, sounds like the barrel is frozen or faulty to me.
