I know there are multiple threads out there for people asking about Forum softwares but my request is slightly different.

Does anybody know of Forum software which has AD intergration for user management?

just thinking it would be slightly easier for me to manage rather then having three seperate passwords for the students to remember as having two is bad enough!

cheers carl - am after to something for free though!

toby what os you running it on? if your going for windows/asp.net have a look on codeplex. blogengine.net was a piece of cake to customize authentication, i've used about 10 times all using different authentication methods AD a couple of times, even got it working with our multi domain.

I know you probably want to go linux but you probably will have better luck with asp.net solution,

I really don't see why you would have more look with asp.net. Linux integration with AD is easy, with dozens of options now.

The the OP. Take a look at the below articles, there's lots of them out there:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Internet_forum_software_(ASP)

and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Internet_forum_software_(PHP)

The ASP page lists AD integration on the page, but the PHP one doesn't.

Simple Machines has an LDAP mod I believe, which works with AD.

I could host asp.net on linux anyway using mono (but not all applications would work)

I installed vanilla last night as i found a link which had a way of creating ad authenication.

If i can't get this working then I'll have a play with some of the others.

@danbuntu - we currently have moodle but its hosted by our LEA so i'm not sure its worth installing another moodle but might do it just to play :)!

cheers fellas

you could try the forums built into Moodle. they have AD auth and will also give you a VLE if you don't already have one.

Depending on what you want, They are pretty lacking in features (even more than the vanilla forum package), not to say that it is automatically a bad thing.
