6Foot2 Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 Link: MSI Explorer - sateesh-arveti - Site Home - TechNet Blogs It allows us to look into the contents of the MSI. It allows us to export the contents of the MSI. It allows us to update commonly changing properties without rebuilding it. Easy to use UI. Now, Updating an MSI is quite simple http://blogs.technet.com/cfs-filesystemfile.ashx/__key/CommunityServer-Components-ImageFileViewer/CommunityServer-Blogs-Components-WeblogFiles-00-00-00-86-08/7633.1.jpg_2D00_550x0.jpg
AngryTechnician Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 Am, I missing something, or does this do exactly the same thing as Orca?
6Foot2 Posted November 26, 2010 Author Posted November 26, 2010 I wasn't aware of Orca and so I can't compare.
srochford Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Looks like a cut-down version of Orca (How to use the Orca database editor to edit Windows Installer files) - eg I can't see how to create a transform file in this program. The KB article suggests Orca is "retired" and no longer supported but it does still work.
AngryTechnician Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 I think Orca has always been unsupported officially, so that's probably boilerplate. It's still being distributed with the latest version of the SDK.
