Editing a WDS / Lighttouch image

Here is my set up first of all...

 

WDS + MDT with Light Touch update 1..

 

Does anyone know the "correct" way to edit an image once its been captured? I want to remove some software and maybe add a few more packages etc but am unsure on how to proceed.

 

Any advice would be good.

Are you talking packages native to windows or normal applications?

use dism and mount the WIM

The best way to do this kind of process is build your original image on a virtual machine and use lots of snapshots for the various different stages. I have stages like this snapshotted:

Base install all windows updates.

All Adobe, Flash etc

Extra applications (Ones that are hard to deploy)

Other customisations

Just Before sysprep

 

This way you can start back from scratch or go to just before sysprep and add a new program then recapture.

You will find that DISM is great for adding drivers, features and language packs etc but it wont add just any old type of package as they have to be a specific format.

you could use a sysprep file to fire out the image at a pc(or virtual pc) in audit mode then close it and recapture but doing it all vm is probably the easiest way

I'm still working my around the new win7 sysprep - could you provide some more details on how to deploy an image in audit mode?

erm off hand no i just remember reading that you could in the ms book i read for an exam

If I remember right from my time messing with the sysprep stuff you would set it in the answer file to boot into audit mode rather than complete the specialization.

Thanks for all the help - I might try deploying the image to a VM then having a mess with it from there.

This is slightly off topic but I would like to try creating an image on a VM and then simply injecting the drivers. What VM systems do people use to do this?
