:( I had a problem with GPO and all user recieving proxies on their system.

i created a staff gpo and set the equinoxproxy so that all staff members can use the proxy to access internet. unfortunately only staff that is joined to the domain with local admin rights can only use internet. if i type in the proxy settings for the users with roaming profiles, it will not accept the settings. all staff had roaming profiles. i also had set the proxy setting at the gpo\staff\user configuration\windows settings\I E maintenance\connection\proxy settings. this is not propergating down. what do i do wrong?

In AD go to the OU with your computers in or in default domain policy computer configuration/administrative templates/system/group policy/internet explorer maintaince policy proccesing then tick process even if the group policy objects have not changed.

Hope this helps it should do if i have got the right end of the stick

Thanks i dont have any folder redirection.

itis very confusing cos if i log on as domain adminon any other computer in the school i will be able to access internet without having to set the proxy. but not any other person.

Also try deleting the local profile on the computer you want the user to get the proxy. then log that user on does it work then???

As mark said - if you have Group Policy Managemt Console installed - go through Policy modelling to check which GPO "wins" on that particular setting for staff.

Thanks for all that contributed to this forum.

The preoblem i have now is that new users created in the AD always pickup the proxy settings but the old users who were already in the AD cannot surf the internet. if you thpe in the proxy settings in the IE, it will not save it.

There is an option somewhere, in the machine side of gpo that lets you say that the proxy is set 'per machine' so any per user settings are ignored. Could that be ticked?

It's also worth scrubbing the locally cached profiles and default profile on the machine and then running 'gpupdate /force' before testing after any GPO changes.
