I picked up my phone (Nexus One) this morning to find that there was a system update ready to install, and according to the message on it, it was 'part one of two'. And that 'this must be installed first to allow the installation of the second update'.

'W00t' I thought, expecting the first to be a preperation for the second update which was to be Gingerbread, but no. After the first installed and rebooted the second downloaded only to be some bug fixes and security patches :(

C'mon. I want Gingerbread!!!

HTC Wildfire

I thought Wildfire had Froyo now? I got sick of waiting for T-Mobile to release Froyo for my Desire (high voltage!) so I 'flashed' it with the HTC stock froyo, worked like a charm :)

EDIT: and I'll probably do the same with Gingerbread, if/when it gets released for Desire

Personally I rooted my desire and went for cyanogenmod - which is built on Froyo

You get all the froyo features, plus more and speed and stability improvements - but no HTC Sense

they do a wildfire build: HTC Wildfire - CyanogenMod Forum

Personally I've found it great, the root took a bit of fiddling, but the firmware flash was easy check here Universal Androot Roots Most Android Phones, No PC or Hacking Required and here How to Choose the Right Android ROM for You

the RomManger - available in the market makes backups, updates and changes really easy
