Has anybody got a LaCie 5TB LaCie 5big Network 2 and would they recommend it for secondary school use as pupils folder storage.

 

The server is almost full so we need to move it all somewhere!

 

750 odd pupils 250-270 PCs

I have experience with it. It is complete and utter trash. Do not buy it. It is not reliable, and is very slow.

 

If you want a NAS, go with QNAP. Of course, going with QNAP is more expensive and will require you to buy the hard drives separately. But you get what you pay for.

Seconded on the crap, had one and another LaCie drive before it, both were not fit for purpose within a school environment, one failed within a few months. Edited December 6, 2010 by Mr.Ben

CruiseFX and Mr Ben are right. As you can see from these benchmarks, write speeds are particularly bad.

Given LaCie's reputation this is hardly surprising.
