My HT is wanting to host a website for his own personal thing and has asked me to look into it for him. All he wants to do is host a few HTML files - nothing fancy, and just something that is cheep and cheerful.

I've never hosted a website or know of any that are decent and cheap. Can you recommend any that are good?

One that I have found so far is http://www.1and1.co.uk and that one was recommended by a friend who used them a very long time ago.

Thanks in advance.

Having a dedicated server for basic stuff seams a bit overkill, how about somewhere like Dreamhost which is shared hosting in the US and it should be fine if it is not mission critical stuff. I can also get you a discount if you enter EDUGEEK when it asks for discounts you can get $75 off the yearly subscription and a free domain. Edited by jedmondson

I didn't say to buy a dedicated server, CS New Media does everything from basic webhosting upwards. The support is the key with them.

I'm not sure if your referral link is allowed on here.

That is a bit mercenary isn't it?

I'm looking at CS New Media but unsure of what package to choose from out of Linux. I'm guessing the HT won't have no more than 20 web pages with some text and graphics on it.

Would the Lite version be enough for him, do you guys reckon?

Should be plenty I'd say.

UKWSD are the guys I go with - UK servers great service and Linux based.

Price is a little more than you might pay for some others but if he is looking to expand his site and needs great uptime then he should take a look.
