Got a bunch of laptops laying around that will at some point require repairing.

Currently the power packs them selves and the mains power lead have the wires showing but not bare ie no copper showing.

Is there anyway I can physically take apart the power pack to re do the wiring and put it back together again - any guides ??

Dell D620, D630, Lenovo T61, T400, T410

Just to give you an idea of the laptop models we have.

As per the image I have put a red rectangle around the areas where there are wiring issues on the power packs

Someone else posted about laptop psu repairing yesterday, they are ultrasonically welded closed so you're only option is to source replacements.

Last time I tried to something like this I found that the unit was filled with resin to seal all the parts in so I couldn't get at any electrical bits at all.

You can get power bricks for most old laptops for £7 now off ebay. So if it takes you an hour to do it...

The dell ones are a pain as there's actually 3 wires and not two and their power supplies are very finiky due to a controller chip inside them. This is one of the main reasons I'm moving away from Dell as my main laptop supplier as a lot of my power packs have failed over the last 2 years due to the chips inside them becoming faulty and the laptops refusing to charge as a result.

For the mains leads, how many do you need as I may have some spares lying around you can have as we've replaced so many in the last 2 years it's not funny.

They were going to be chucked anyway and I was gonna repair a couple just for our use in the IT department as can see what you are all saying ref failing the PAT test

Will give it a try if I get any spare time
