I have been looking for an Asset manager (open Source and Paid) and I can not find anything that fits our school just right. I have looked and tested a good few. I have used GPLI for a year and its just to hard to track information and compile reports. I have tested Spiceworks and it work well but have core missing features like bulk edit and import/export.

I have been thinking of writing something open source in python.

Have you found software that fits right?

Would any developers like to help out?

We use Spiceworks and it works fine for us .... thinking of using the equipment register in FMS for this.

Some library systems can be useful asset managers too. I know a school who uses AccessIt for this. Think it can be done with eclipse.net too.

@rh91uk: I didn't know about equipment register in FMS, I'll have a look in the morning.

Spiceworks worked really well apart from no bulk edit, I just can't believe that it doesn't have that feature. Importing just a pain and has killed my data a few times.

Obviously the FMS equipment register will take a while to set up, but it again has a pro of having a central store of data again :) (one of our reasons for moving all Assessment and Registration to SIMS as we are very luddite..!)
