3s-gtech Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 It does look like what the GTX 480 should always have been, but good to see a decent top-end card from Nvidia. I suspect ATI will do well with their new 6970 etc though, the architecture just seems a bit more mature and the have a strong market position.
ZeroHour Posted November 10, 2010 Author Posted November 10, 2010 Yeh I just dont really like ATI very much tbh as I have had nothing but pain with their drivers etc (but others have said the same about nvidia to be fair) Also ATI's 3d parts are massively lacking and pretty much a mess I hear.

I've had a number of cards from both over the years, currently running a 4850 at home and integrated 3200 at work. Got a Ti4200 at home in a retro rig. Never had any problems with drivers from either vendor, but I tend to get slightly more dead Nvidia than ATI cards on school machines.

SYNACK Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I have had issues with drivers from both, as far as I am aware the ATI drivers still kill the DWM in Windows 7x64 if flash is allowed to try using hardware acceleration and Nvidias 400 series can generate weird pixel interfearence wih some WPF applications when spanning across a couple of screens. I don't trust either of them now and for desktops at least am preffering the integrated Intel offerings that can support vpro and don't kill the system randomly for petty reasons. The 580 does sound much better from a performance point of view and is not taking so much motivation in thermal envelope size from eairly p4 chips.
