projector1 Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 (edited) Due to rsi, i am looking for utilising an ipad or similar tool to help conduct my day to day running of managing/administrating the network. I do a lot of work on the servers thus remote desktoping is key. Does the ipad have this functionality? Is anyone using a ipad for similar activities? Edited April 21, 2011 by ZeroHour
FN-GM Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 (edited) The iPad will allow you to use remote desktop with an app from the app store. It is free. So you can use it to manage your servers. Link Here Some apps you may find handy VNC Link Here TeamViewer Link Here Citrix Support Link Here LanSchool Link Here & Link HereAbility to ping & treaceroute PS: As the iPad does not run Mac OSX and is related more to a iPhone, PDA or Netbook it might be better in this forum: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/netbooks-pda-phones/ Edited November 9, 2010 by FN-GM 2
ZeroHour Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 One thing though, you dont have wrist rests etc for the ipad and I have found even playing with one in the shop a bit of a strain as its not light. Also due to the nature of the interface you can find a bit of arm strain as you levitate your hand above the display rather then using a rest on a pc for example. 1
jcollings Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Yep - a couple of the techies here bought themselves iPads and now use them lots for work. They have RDP apps, email linked to exchange, helpdesk etc. They carry them round to most jobs and use the extensively. I find it very useful as when I email them for info or job requests they now get them instantly and often can do mulitple jobs whilst out and about. I know other devices do this but the iPad works for them. 2
