We have had the intel modular server now for 1 1/2 years. It's their version of blades, with an internal SAN. We have that system with the external Promise array track (extra storage). It's pretty good, had a couple of teething problems mainly due to the compatibility problems with the Intel E5500 series chip and Hyper-V.

That sounds like the best way for a school to virtualize. Could you post some photo's font and back?

I have to say it just looks like an Intel branded version of a blade server chassis, but without some of the flexibility you get from the HP/Dell/IBM/Cisco offerings.

With out the flexibility it makes it much more affordable. It has the ability to connect to cheaper SAS storage. This would be a very good fit for a primary school wanting to virtualize. Not may schools I know of have EMC or Netapp SAN's. Edited November 8, 2010 by nicholab

That's very true of course. Although I suspect you could do something similar with some of the IBM blade centers I've seen. Not sure how the cost would compare since I've not seen pricing on either .

well it costs about £500-600 for a intel blade in it without the ram and proocessor

Dell End User Blade Centre Chassis is around £1500 and £1000 per 8gb ram, 2 quad core CPUs Blade. Still get a decent enough warranty though not with Dell.
