[sims] Sims options

I'm trying to get Sims.net options working.

 

When I click on options from the main sims menu it seams to load up some crazy windows 3.1 window??

 

Then it asks me for a username and password.

 

Any ideas what it is?

 

If I don't enter a password it says "cannot find password file"

Do you have an option to select a user name, user type or something similar? If so, choose 'Manager', don't enter a password and click OK.

A screenshot might help. It could jog the memory as it sounds like an old SIMS module that may have been in use before Sims .Net?

I suggest you click the Help button after trying to open options. It will open with functionality greyed out.

You need to import the dataset from NT6 for next year to create a new implementation of Options!

I don't use Options but I think it only needs to have the band structure in place on the dataset.

I also guess that you need Timetabler rights in SysMan to be able to utilise it.

There are experts on SupportNet who use this functionality. Up to this year my dataset has contained too many bands/sub-bands for it to work!

I guess we are licensed as it works under my admin account. I've checked the permissions and the teachers have timetabler rights.

Should not be asking for this. Check that you have the licence file installed at S:/SIMS/SNOVA/... somewhere in here, it is called an O Licence file.

 

Also, check your SIMS.ini file, ensure the correct paths are set up:

Note depending on your settings these might be slightly different.

 

Looks like their is an incorrect redirection going on.

 

Failing all that, try a reinstall

Yes I think keeping in mind this .ini file is a year old now. Although at the time (barring the workstation number!) this I optimised to be as efficient, but generic to all workstations as possible.

Hopefully your not still installing SIMS Infrastructure v.1, not sure why you've got: SIMS DIRECTORY going to FMSSQL folder?

Only Timetabler has Timetable/Options Permissions by default!

Why on earth would Teachers have Timetable Permissions? Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me!

I had this problem and fixed it by giving the Options admin person full control of the Options folder within SIMS

Check that the users have permissions to access all areas of sims mapped drive, including read/write in the options/timetable related nova folders, also similar any local sims folder. if you as admin can run it, it points to a permissions error.

 

it is old so doesn't rely on username and password from sql, most people don't set one for this module, but you can if you want.

 

i'm assuming you have a password.dat file in your S:\sims\options folder, [replace S with your mapped drive] if so, they maybe just can't read it..

I've got this problem again on a new laptop. Getting "Unable to retrieve 9 implementations" when I load Options.

 

Its a new windows 7 laptop and the user has permissions to the options folder on the shared drive. Is there anything else I need to do?

Funnily enough had that exact thing last week! We had to install BDE (Borlands database engine) for it to work, after that's installed it worked fine on ours.

 

Might be worth a try.

Just installing "SimsInfrastructureSetup" should install the necessary parts. It will flake out on the 16bit crap if you're on a 64bit system but will still work.
