Quick update to this, had to call EiS earlier about the password thing after trying everything else in this thread, they just replaced the password.dat file in the options folder to remove the old password for us.

I do hate to necrobump.. Sorry!

I've given the user full control over the OPTIONS folder in the SIMS share, and the Options Online User group. Yet still she gets the password file not found issue.

What am I missing?

By default, Options does not have a password. Just click on the User required (Operator, User or Manager) and click OK.

If still unable to access the module:

Logon to different workstations as different users to check whether the problem is workstation or user specific.

1. Individual Workstations (This solution is also applicable if the server has been migrated and the error is appearing on all workstations.)

When opening, the Options module reads the SIMS.INI file. This file is usually in the C:\WINDOWS directory of individual workstations (please check with the network manager whether this is the case). The SIMS.INI file contains the SIMS path. This is a shared, mapped drive on the network, usually S:, but other letters can be used.

Please note that UNC paths will not work. Nor will an extra \ at the end of the path in the SIMS.INI.

Examples of what the SIMSDirectory line in the SIMS.INI might show:

SIMSDirectory=S:\SIMS (this is a correct example)

SIMSDirectory=\\servername\sims (this is incorrect)

SIMSDirectory=S:\SIMS\ (this is incorrect)

The password file is held in the \SIMS\OPTIONS directory.

If the SIMS.INI is not correct; or if the user does not have full permissions to the SIMS.INI file and to the shared \SIMS folder on the network; or if files in the \SIMS folder are hidden; then the password message appears.

When editing the SIMS.INI file, check that a copy of the file with the uncorrected information has not been saved in the user’s virtual store:

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Windows>

Huh. Weird. C:\Windows\SIMS.ini just points to the local %PROGRAMFILESx86% paths.

[setup]
SIMSDotNetDirectory=C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\SIMS .net
FinanceDirectory=C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\FMSSQL

It doesn't have a SIMSDirectory=

There's also no SIMS.ini in the VirtualStore\Windows, just a ODBC.ini containing:

[ODBC 32 bit Data Sources]
SIMS_FMS_DATABASE=SQL Native Client (32 bit)
[sIMS_FMS_DATABASE]
Driver32=C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\sqlncli.dll

I've ripped a copy of SIMS.ini from the other Options user's PC, the user is back in tomorrow, hopefully that'll fix the issue! Danke!
