mtdmitchell Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Hi im in the process of configuring DeployStudio to image our macs, I have followed the instruction from the deployshare website and most things seems to work up to when i netboot (using "n" at startup) the blinking logo turns into a gray Apple logo with a spinning globe icon...so that must mean the booter file has been executed and i have a network connection ....then it tries to load and i get a box that pops up and states that you must restart your computer!.ehhh i have tried recreating the netboot set, the netboot set was created on the mini mac im trying to boot. i have a mac mini as a server x 10.6.4. this is the log from the server Oct 26 11:44:52 mac-server bootpd[276]: NetBoot: [1,c4:2c:3:8:27:16] BSDP ACK[sELECT] sent 10.*.*.* pktsize 401 Oct 26 11:55:50 mac-server bootpd[276]: server name mac-server.campion.internal Oct 26 11:55:50 mac-server bootpd[276]: interface en0: ip 10.*.*.* mask 255.255.252.0 Oct 26 11:55:50 mac-server bootpd[276]: dhcp: re-reading lease list Oct 26 11:55:50 mac-server bootpd[276]: bsdpd: re-reading configuration Oct 26 11:55:50 mac-server bootpd[276]: bsdpd: shadow file size will be set to 48 megabytes Oct 26 11:55:50 mac-server bootpd[276]: bsdpd: age time 00:15:00 Oct 26 12:04:12 mac-server bootpd[2978]: server starting Oct 26 12:04:12 mac-server bootpd[2978]: server name mac-server.campion.internal Oct 26 12:04:12 mac-server bootpd[2978]: interface en0: ip 10.*.*.* mask 255.255.252.0 Oct 26 12:04:12 mac-server bootpd[2978]: bsdpd: re-reading configuration Oct 26 12:04:12 mac-server bootpd[2978]: bsdpd: shadow file size will be set to 48 megabytes Oct 26 12:04:12 mac-server bootpd[2978]: bsdpd: age time 00:15:00 Oct 26 12:04:15 mac-server bootpd[2978]: BSDP INFORM [en0] 1,c4:2c:3:8:27:16 NetBoot001 arch=i386 sysid=Macmini4,1 Oct 26 12:04:15 mac-server bootpd[2978]: NetBoot: [1,c4:2c:3:8:27:16] BSDP ACK sent 10.*.*.* pktsize 300 Oct 26 12:04:15 mac-server bootpd[2978]: service time 0.000345 seconds Oct 26 12:04:15 mac-server bootpd[2978]: service time 0.000014 seconds Oct 26 12:04:19: --- last message repeated 1 time --- Oct 26 12:04:19 mac-server bootpd[2978]: BSDP INFORM [en0] 1,c4:2c:3:8:27:16 NetBoot001 arch=i386 sysid=Macmini4,1 Oct 26 12:04:19 mac-server bootpd[2978]: NetBoot: [1,c4:2c:3:8:27:16] BSDP ACK sent 10.*.*.* pktsize 300 Oct 26 12:04:19 mac-server bootpd[2978]: service time 0.000301 seconds Oct 26 12:04:35 mac-server bootpd[2978]: BSDP DISCOVER [en0] 1,c4:2c:3:8:27:16 NetBoot001 arch=i386 sysid=Macmini4,1 Oct 26 12:04:35 mac-server bootpd[2978]: replyfile /private/tftpboot/NetBoot/NetBootSP0/26-Oct-10.nbi/i386/booter Oct 26 12:04:35 mac-server bootpd[2978]: replying to 0.0.0.0 Oct 26 12:04:35 mac-server bootpd[2978]: BSDP OFFER sent [1,c4:2c:3:8:27:16] pktsize 374 Oct 26 12:04:35 mac-server bootpd[2978]: service time 0.000881 seconds Oct 26 12:04:36 mac-server bootpd[2978]: service time 0.000033 seconds Oct 26 12:06:10 mac-server bootpd[2978]: service time 0.000014 seconds Oct 26 12:07:04 mac-server bootpd[2978]: service time 0.000016 seconds Oct 26 12:07:44 mac-server bootpd[2978]: service time 0.000014 seconds Oct 26 12:07:58 mac-server bootpd[2978]: service time 0.000013 seconds Oct 26 12:08:25 mac-server bootpd[2978]: BSDP DISCOVER [en0] 1,c4:2c:3:8:27:16 NetBoot001 arch=i386 sysid=Macmini4,1 Oct 26 12:08:25 mac-server bootpd[2978]: replyfile /private/tftpboot/NetBoot/NetBootSP0/26-Oct-10.nbi/i386/booter Oct 26 12:08:25 mac-server bootpd[2978]: replying to 0.0.0.0 Oct 26 12:08:25 mac-server bootpd[2978]: BSDP OFFER sent [1,c4:2c:3:8:27:16] pktsize 374 can anyone help?
Carter Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Be sure to build your netboot image with the computer that is the newest out of the bunch. This will make sure that all the needed drivers & compatibility is there to boot the computers. Is the computer you are getting this issue with a PowerMac or Intel?
mtdmitchell Posted October 27, 2010 Author Report Posted October 27, 2010 Its and Intel mac mini, brand new.....10.6.the mac I’m trying to boot is the same one i get the image from I’m going to try another mac, as cannot see why this does not work...i have tried recreating the image several times now...this is very frustrating
HodgeHi Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 You are getting a kernel panic. Doing a search for kernel panic during netboot should help to bring up more answers. This is the first one I came across. It may help. Apple - Support - Discussions - Netboot clients boot into kernel panic ... 1
mtdmitchell Posted November 2, 2010 Author Report Posted November 2, 2010 Thanks for the replies, in the end the problem was the netboot folders, when i first installed the netboot service i manually created the folders as the service did not cseem to create the folders...so i dont think the perms set correctly on those folders. i uninstalled everything and started again, this time when i installed netboot the folders got created. i discovered the problem by looking at the kernal panic log file on the mac, some thing about "nfs server refused mount" a quick google of this pointed to the netboot folders
