Exchange 2010 Migration Problems.

Hi all,

 

Having a problem with my exchange upgrade to 2010 fro 2003.

 

They have been running in coexistance for a few months now and thought the half-Term would be a great opportunity to move over all the mailboxes and decomission the old server.

 

I have moved all the boxes over to the 2010 server, I have created a new SMTP connector on the 2010 server, I have 3 problems.

 

1. When I turn off the old mail server I can send mail out but I can not recieve anymail in, ( we have a barracuda Spam and firewall 400 server, I have set the destination mail server on the barracuda to the exchange 2010 server) the mail comes into the network and shows in the message log as arrived and allowed on the barracuda. The mail however does not reach the client machine.

I switch back on the old mailserver and te mail that was waiting pings through, have I missed a step somewhere?

 

2. Outlook Web Apps, I have changed the external ip address to point to the new 2010 server for OWA, when you go to the page you get the certificate warning page, but when you click contnue to this website it shows a 404 error. Navigate to the internal version and it worksfine https://193.164.114.231/owa .

 

3. Shared calendars sow no connection when trying to view someones calendar.

 

I would appreciate any help on this as it's driving me nuts, thanks

For the SMTP issue do you have only a direct/internal SMTP feed or is the smtp feed redirected from your ISP? (I would suspect the later, and that mail is still being routed externally to your legacy server?)

 

For the OWA issue, did you have external access working while co-existing?

If not, is the external URL different to the internal DNS name? (E.G does external = mail.domain.com/owa and internal = servername/owa / servername.domain.com/owa?) If so, you might need to go in to Server Configuration > Client Access and check the Internal and External urs are correct for OWA

 

Failing all of that, try doing some tests on https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/ - it's helped me out before.

Mail Comes into the school via an MX entry with our domain host which points to an external IP provided by the LA, the LA point this external ip to our barracuda server which ten sends the mail on to the mail server. I can see the mail coming in, it arrives at the barracuda and shows in the message log as allowed. but with the exchange 2003 box disconnected it does not arrive. As soon as I switch the EX2003 box on the mail comes through again, even though the barracuda is set t deliver the mail to the EX2010 server.

 

On the OWA front, I do not have an external domain name I just have an external IP address which was used by the old exchange 2003 frontend server to provide Outlook Web Access, all I have done is enabled OWA in 2010 and changed the external address in the settings to use that IP address, so the old OWA used http://193.164.114.201/exchange I used in 2010 http://193.164.114.201/OWA. I got the LA to change the ip address to point to the 2010 box instead of the 2003 Frontend.

Sounds like an issue with the baracuda, have you restarted it and have you checked that it is fowarding the traffic to the right internal IP with something like network moniter on the server or wireshark on a diagnostic pc?
