El_Nombre Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 Hi folks - curious and annoying problem right here with Office 2003 and SMARTboard drivers. This doesn't happen for domain/pc admins and only on a few pcs, but when a teacher opens up an office application a window pops up with "Please wait while windows configures smartboard drivers," which then falls over when it can't find the .msi in the share to which the staff group have no access, but even allowing them access to the folder and file didn't sort it. Google Fu lead me to this article which is all well and good, but I want to tell the SMARTboard software when it's time to update thank you very much! So I went into the registry and hacked away at anything resembling updates in the smartboard folders, yet still nothing. I figured someone wise around here must have had the same problem at some time or another. Does anyone know what I need to do? It's driving me a little nuts now and I'm about to throw my toys around. Would be grateful for any pointers. Thanks for reading.
BIST Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 you could try ringing 08450 724999 thats smart board support
El_Nombre Posted October 25, 2010 Author Posted October 25, 2010 Hehe, yeah I guess I could do Thanks BIST. The thing that's stopping me though is the inevitable point towards the article I linked, and them telling me to update it. I'd more like to whip it into line rather than bow to it's whims. I might give them a try if things get DESPARATE but I'm reluctant. Cheers for the advice though.
BIST Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 no problem sorry i couldnt be more helpful kelly
john Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 How about you make a custom install using the Smart Admin tool kit where you can make a customised MSI of both the Tools and Drivers to save you the hassles your having?
sted Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 update the drivers ive seen that with one version newer/older ones dont seem to have the issue
DMcCoy Posted October 25, 2010 Posted October 25, 2010 I just decided to live without Smart toolbars in office. You can just do the unregister part from here http://www2.smarttech.com/kbdoc/134138 to remove it. 1

TimJing Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 My suggestions for Smart Tech if they are listening. 1. New major revisions, built in the removal of all old version files, allow MSI/MSP deployment capabilities and make it simple. 2. Minor updates, release it as a msp so we can do a quick deployment on the fly.
